Objective Fiction focuses on Eddie Braben for BBC Four

BBC Four have commissioned Eric, Ernie and Me (working title) from Objective Fiction, a one off drama focusing on comedy scriptwriter Eddie Braben.

They were called The Golden Triangle – Morecambe, Wise and Braben. For over a decade, the writer Eddie Braben penned Morecambe and Wise’s material, and reshaped the double act into the Eric and Ernie that the nation took to its heart. But it wasn’t all sunshine.

Written by Neil Forsyth (Bob Servant, Waiting for Andre), Eric, Ernie & Me celebrates the man behind Morecambe and Wise’s greatest successes, culminating in their iconic 1977 Christmas Show, whilst showing the pressure and pain he went through to help create Britain's most beloved double act.

Shane Allen, Controller, BBC Comedy said: “Eddie was the genius writing catalyst for Morecambe’s and Wise’s golden age in the 70’s and this Christmas marks the 40th anniversary of one of the most watched comedy shows of all time. In this biopic we go behind the famous velvet curtains to see the blood, sweat and tears that went in to keeping the whole nation entertained.”

Objective Fiction’s CCO, Ben Farrell added, “Eddie Braben is an unsung comedy legend. It’s an honour to bring his story to the BBC, a broadcaster for whom he created many of their most loved comic moments.”

The 1x60 drama was commissioned by Gregor Sharp, Commissioning Editor, BBC Comedy and will be produced by Objective Fiction, part of Objective Media Group. Ben Farrell and Toby Stevens will executive produce with Alison Sterling line producing.

Further details on cast will be announced in due course.
